Green Mosque

Yeşil Mosque was built by Sultan Mehmed I (Çelebi) between 1419-1420, as stated in the three-line inscription written in celî sülüs above the crown gate. The architect of the building is Hacı İvaz Pasha.

The mosque symbolizes the rebirth of the Ottoman Empire after the 11-year “Fatret Period” following the defeat at the Battle of Ankara in 1402.

It is one of the symbols of the city of Bursa along with the other buildings of the Green Complex in which it is located. The fame of the mosque comes from its tile coverings, which have a special feature and importance for the 15th century Ottoman tile art.
